Rickey Spearman is a son of New Orleans—raised in the Magnolia Housing Projects by a single parent, shaped by the streets, and refined through service, study, and struggle. Once a U.S. Marine, always a U.S. Marine, public servant, and cultural worker, Rickey’s voice emerges from the places most literature forgets: urban developments, corner blocks, church pews, and community eateries.
A strategist, storyteller, and systems thinker, Rickey has served as Program Coordinator for the City of New Orleans under the U.S. Department of Justice’s Weed and Seed initiative. He has been honored by the NAACP, the Mayor of New Orleans, the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, and the Governor of Louisiana for his military and community service and was named one of New Orleans’ 40 Under 40 Businessmen of the Year.
His career bridges public service, narrative reclamation, financial equity, and cultural healing.
Now, as an author, Rickey tells stories that fight back. His books—including Magnolia Steel: Behind Enemy Lines, HAMPTON: The Crown Was Never Meant to Fit Me, RBTS – The Hidden Mind Killer and The Buried Brotherhood: A Black Mason’s Journey to the Light—speak to survival, grief, loyalty, and legacy. Through his platform Second Light, he brings books and creative mentorship to incarcerated and at-risk communities, using story as a weapon for transformation.
Rickey Spearman is a New Orleans–born author, screenwriter, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran whose work explores truth, justice, and cultural reclamation. Honored by the NAACP and civic leaders across Louisiana, he writes stories that break silence and build legacy—from housing projects to Hollywood.
