SECOND LIGHT

Second Light is a cultural justice initiative of Nolatown, Inc., founded by author and community strategist Rickey Spearman to restore voice, vision, and value to those too often erased by society.

We believe that storytelling is more than expression—it’s liberation. Second Light brings books, writing tools, and creative mentorship into prisons, jails, reentry programs, and communities impacted by systemic violence and neglect. Through bold literature, guided workshops, and one-on-one engagement, we empower participants to reclaim their narratives, confront their truths, and imagine new futures.

Our work centers Black and Brown voices, uplifts lived experience and ignites the spark of purpose in those who've been silenced or sidelined. Whether distributing titles like Magnolia Steel and HAMPTON behind bars, or hosting digital writing labs with returning citizens, Second Light is committed to building a legacy of literacy, healing, and truth-telling from the inside out.

Because everyone deserves a second light, and every story deserves to be told.
